Andrew Demetriou is the Managing Director and is one of the two co-founders of Ioannides Demetriou LLC.
He is a Chartered Arbitrator, the first to hold this accreditation in Cyprus (and one of the only two Chartered Arbitrators in Cyprus), and he is also an International Panel Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is a member of STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) and entitled to use the designation TEP (Trusts and Estates Practitioner). He has served as Chairman of the Legalink Network (2015 - 2017) (http://www.legalink.ch). Andrew is also an accredited Mediator.
Andrew has provided legal and arbitration services to clients on a world-wide basis involving visits for the provision of legal advice and services in many countries including Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egypt, Estonia, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Philippines, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, United Kingdom, UAE and USA. He advises many international and local companies and businesses including a number of semi-public bodies and public companies including the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, The Cyprus Contractors Organisation, The University of Cyprus and The Cyprus Forest Industries.
Andrew counts some of the largest contractors in Cyprus among his clientele. He has also acted for the Republic of Cyprus in a number of cases abroad and in Cyprus following special appointments by the last three Attorneys General of Cyprus. In addition to the above he has acted for the UK Government in cases brought against it in the courts of Cyprus as well as for the Ministry of Defence of UK in cases within the British Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus. Andrew was appointed legal advisor to the Government of the Republic of Cyprus for the Hydrocarbons Exploration and Exploitation off the southern coast of Cyprus. He is also regularly called upon to provide expert evidence in matters of Cypriot law in proceedings before foreign courts. His areas of expertise are Arbitration, Banking and Finance, Commercial Law, Corporate Law, Dispute Resolution, Energy Law, EU and Competition Law, Litigation, Mergers and Acquisitions, Public and Administrative Law and Real Estate and Construction. He has extensive experience in all aspects of Public Infrastructure/BOT Projects from environmental impact to tender procedures and through to construction contract and project operation/completion, joint ventures and telecommunications/IT. He is also very active in corporate structuring matters and trust and estate planning for private clients. As a litigator, Andrew handles high value and complex disputes in cases which often have a multijurisdictional element and thus require the formulation of an aggressive legal strategy. With more than 30 years of experience under his belt he has litigated numerous novel cases, which have created some of the most commonly cited precedent in Cypriot case law.
